Above Mundanity: Version II (2023)
Artist Statement: My photographs examine life’s mundanity. The parts of our days that vanish from our memory, the moments in which we believe “nothing” happened. Photographing the city’s transport hubs and public spaces from various perspectives, I investigate the commonalities between communal spaces and the people – the shared experiences between subjects whether that be commute, destinations, or destiny. My photographs of commuters traveling through public stations reveal the complex and humanistic qualities of the mundane. Strangers follow a consistent path as if traveling in a pack. Passengers rest in the terminal or have a drink at the station bar while waiting for their train. Continuing their commute, individuals ascend escalators and cross the mall. My pictures represent the moments before their day “begins.”
